week 0 - training facility

blood match week zero

week zero

When you first wake up in your room, an announcement will play on the television.

You’ll be spending your first week before the game officially starts at a vast facility that has been completely submerged underwater. This facility consists of a central hub surrounded by four smaller spherical buildings. You can get to each subsection by either taking a shuttle or walking across a long glass tunnel.

[That's... a little concerning, but truthfully, Silver can understand the sentiment. Not knowing about Mayu, after all, his first thought is that she simply has someone important to get back to... and he can relate.

So he'll clear his throat, not wanting to spook her, and peer over what she's doing.]

Close. You've almost got it.

[Mayu can't help but start when she hears him clear his throat - but, well, it's only mild. By now, she's had her fair share of people coming up behind her when her attention has been on something else.

She stays quiet as she finishes working on the trap she's been fiddling with - and then in the next moment, she hooks one last piece into place and it snaps shut with the sharp sound of metal on metal. If anyone's foot had been stuck in there, they might not have a foot anymore...

She slowly turns her head to look at Silver.]

...these things are dangerous, aren't they?

[Um, duh.]
temporalguardian: (Are they all what they seem?)

[personal profile] temporalguardian 2015-03-09 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that's what traps are for. Even ones meant to disable are set up with the intent of ensuring that whoever's caught in them is disabled, so they aren't exactly something that can take a lot of care.

[Though that going off so quickly was a bad sign... it should have at least had a moment of delay. He moves over to check on it.]

Have you worked with these before?

No, I haven't...

[She shakes her head and then frowns down at the trap.]

Did I do something wrong with it? [He sounds like he knows - or at least has more experience with traps than he does - so she'll defer to his experience here.] ...a lot of the things here, I'll be learning for the first time.
temporalguardian: (If you were able)

I think that's the same for a lot of people. Let me look.

[He's pretty experienced with traps, though he's far from an expert -- he just knows what he needed to in order to survive. Even so, this is a familiar trap, and he checks over it.]

...Ah, here we go. This bolt here was too tight. It was setting it off.

[He'll take a tool and adjust that, then pull the trap to set it... and it stays as it is, open and ready.]

There! Now just drop something in it, but keep your hand high up.

I see...

[She doesn't, really. How had he been able to tell what was wrong with it and how to fix it so quickly? ...still, he'd managed it. "The bolt was too tight"... she'll have to keep a closer eye on it in the future.

Mayu nods and picks up a small piece of metal that had been laying on the table. Hopefully that wasn't an important part of any other trap, because she brings her hand up over her trap and lets go.

It falls, the trap snaps shut, and Mayu smiles.]

That was exactly how it was meant to work... thank you.

You're welcome. I'd really like to believe this is all some kind of joke, but if it isn't, there's going to be some people who decide to play it way too cheerfully.

Try to be careful, all right?

...too cheerfully? [She frowns a little in confusion.] Should we be afraid of people who are smiling?

No, I mean... There might be some people who like killing. Or who think they can get rewards from it.

Oh.

[Oh, she says, like she's not one of those people who will kill if it means making it back home. At least she has the grace to look a little discomforted by the idea.]

That's a frightening thought...

Just try to be careful and stick with your partner.

[Silver hasn't the foggiest that she's probably more of a danger to everyone else than everyone else is to her.]

If you're both helping each other, you'll have a better chance of staying safe.

...you be careful, too...

[She looks more and more ill-at-ease with each passing second. It's a problem.]

Is your partner someone you can trust..?
