blood match day three

open arena

20 players remaining

The morning begins as another hot and muggy day on the island, though there's a little more of a breeze, and as a result, the weather is slightly more pleasant. It's a calm day out on the seas, too, though there are a few clouds gathering in the skies. This morning, the birds in the jungle are chirping loudly.

As the sun rises, an announcement plays:

Good morning, contestants! You must now switch zones from where you were last night. You won't be allowed back into that zone until you hear from me again. Don't test the rules, or you might regret it!

Now, today will be a special day. There will be fun surprises all day long, so stay alert!

True to these words, throughout the day, you'll notice a number of dangerous situations seem to occur roughly every few hours, though trying to time your watch to it won't work perfectly. Still, you can expect the following throughout the day:
10 AM: An earthquake! The earthquake lasts about five minutes, and rumbling aftershocks take place throughout the hour. You might want to avoid anywhere rocks or trees could fall, and to try and avoid inside spaces, caves, or other shelters that could collapse. You might also want to avoid the beaches and seek higher ground, as dangerous waves crash onto the shore.

11 AM: Rain. A heavy rainfall will fall throughout the hour; if you're outside in it, you're liable to get soaked, but inside spaces may get flooded. During the rainfall, the waters will be choppy and dangerous.

1 PM: Lightning. In Zone 4, the zone hums with live electricity, sparking small fires and breaking windows. You should try and get away from anything electric. In the other zones, lightning strikes trees and sparks jungle fires. In Zone 3, the swamps become particularly toxic, and panicking animals are likely to attack.

3 PM: An aerial attack. Small devices, too far away to really see what they are, are up in the sky, and will drop items. The items may contain poison gas, may contain explosives, may contain food and water. The attacks will take place at random intervals for two hours - when one begins, you had better run and scatter.

6 PM: The volcano on Zone 0 rumbles ominously, and projects smoke into the sky. The smoke is thick, dark, and makes it hard to see and breathe. But nothing else happens. While immediately at this time the smoke is thick and dangerous, it dissipates but never completely leaves.

You can try to hide, run, or fight your way out of these situations. It's very likely that at some point you and your partner or crew will get split up, or have to run for it, but it's up to you where you go and what you do.

(OOC: When starting a thread, please put in your header the following: ZONE # - TIME - AREA. This will hopefully make it easier for everyone to keep track of which character is where.

Please remember to update the Weekly Check-in with your character's planned movements. Check in is due by Monday at 9 PM)

Nonsense, I'm glad they'll be useful. We won't be short even afterwards.

[There will be plenty of bandages for Mayu. He glances at the bite mark with mild interest, but doesn't comment. Instead, he takes off his backpack and opens the kit, gathers some of the cotton in his hands.

The bottle Tamaki gave him is still in there, secure, labeled as rubbing alcohol. He reaches for it and his hands pause. He wonders, idly, about the smell. Isn't cyanide said to smell like bitter almonds to some people? Will it smell that way to Jack? Will he think to notice? Of course, even if he doesn't notice, it won't smell like rubbing alcohol. But is Jack in any state to care about that?

This is a risk, certainly. There's a risk of discovery, of Jack noticing what he's doing. Even so, he might not be in any state to fight. Strangling someone, there's nothing more to that than wrapping your hands around their throat and putting pressure until they asphyxiate. It will be messy, but it's possible, it's a backup plan. Though that plan leads to more risks. He'll be surprised and get injured in the process, leaving him vulnerable, Jack will escape somehow, and come after him later, Tamaki will walk in...Tamaki will walk in, with his hands around someone's throat, or with the bottle out, and no, there won't be any way to explain that away.

But anything worth doing comes with a risk, and that's particularly true in their precarious situation, where he's at such a disadvantage. It may as well be his life philosophy; the only way to get ahead when you started behind is the willingness to take the necessary risks to advance. He's...he's made stupid decisions here, being far too risk avoidant, when he knows they'll never make it otherwise. This is...

But he can think of so many ways it will go wrong. And his hands hesitate a few seconds too long on the bottle while he does the calculations, and it's suspicious now, far too suspicious. God. What's wrong with him, is he actually afraid? None of the rest matters, doing this is the only way he'll get ahead and he refuses to be outclassed.

The moment has already passed. The tremor of his hands and the second of hesitation is subtle, likely unperceptible, but it's just enough. He reaches instead for his canteen, and dampens the cotton with water. Damn it, god damn it.]

The salt will do enough, as long as it's clean before we bandage it.

[There's no outward indication to show if he noticed anything during the hesitation, but that isn't new. Jack doesn't tend to show much emotion beyond cheer, and when that cheer is gone it's like there's nothing left behind but a still stretch of water. It's more prominent now, since head trauma is pretty detrimental even to the most practiced of fakes; he'll have to do a lot of smiling for the camera later, he's sure, so he chooses to tuck them away for the time being, after the initial pleasantries of a greeting are all said and done.]

Oh, it will? That's not bad luck.

[Like it makes up for the much worse luck of tumbling over a burning bridge and landing in dangerous waters...

He'll hold a hand out for the cotton too, since he figures he can probably clean it up himself. Supplies are already being donated, here; it would be unkind to ask for more assistance than necessary, since he knows he'll need help securing the bandages.]

Does it look bad?
glasshole: (surprise | i can't believe this)

[Kyouya is likewise an inveterate faker. He knows how to make a smile mild and pleasant, or friendly and welcoming, or a polite request, or an implied threat. Whatever is going on beneath the surface, it's second nature to him that it doesn't show on his face; it's still a placid mask, helpful and unassuming. But no, he's concerned and, loathe as he is to admit it, shaken. He has a feeling Jack now knows or suspects his intentions, but he can't tell whether that's his ordinary talent at reading others or paranoia.

This isn't like him, and as he hands Jack the cotton and begins winding a strip of bandages, he's filled with poisonous fury towards himself. His own capabilities, his willingness to do whatever is necessary, his lack of any softness, these are his only advantages. And Tamaki...if Tamaki wants to survive, he can fucking deal with the person who is going to make that happen. They haven't had this argument yet, not really, but he's preemptively angry about it, too. The right moment has already passed and maybe it's too late now, but he'll be damned if he'll let a second opportunity pass him by again.]

It's deeper than I'd like, but it should heal in time. You ought not to exert yourself for a while.

[Raising the cotton to his head, he gently dabs away at the crusted blood and seasalt left behind. It's painful and tender to the touch, but he barely winces while he works. A light laugh follows, and some of that still water is swept away again under the more ever-present cheer. It's hard to tell if he's intentionally trying to dispel some of the underlying tension here or if he just doesn't see fit to cater to it anymore.]

It would be nice if I could take a day to rest, but that's no good. [He's no stranger to recklessly pushing his own limits, at least.]

I'll take as much time as I can afford, but we'll have to get back to work soon, I think.

[Which is followed by a sigh, like this is all a trifling irritation and not attempted murder part 4 ft. head injury.]

[He can't help but read it as a threat, because he can't read it. Not being able to read something and what they want from him is an uncomfortable thing, and in his present state of mind he'll take everything the worst way.

Especially making that statement. Is he saying he can't rest and has to go back to work to show he knows he can't trust Kyouya? Perhaps, perhaps not.]

Whatever you think is best.
dramatist: (wow look at how much i care)

[personal profile] dramatist 2015-04-02 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Pulling the cotton ball away from his head to examine it. He hums once; a tuneless sound of vague acknowledgment.]

I think it'd be best to lay down for a while, honestly! [And boy would he really truly like to do just that.]

Still, the people who are left right now are going to be a lot of work to take care of. [Which is really his primary concern here, even though he's well aware of the fact that Kyouya could be a huge threat, too. There are other things to consider too, of course; the audience response, the notes and packages... As much as he'd like it:]

Sitting around isn't really an option.
glasshole: (skeptical | i won't be participating)

[personal profile] glasshole 2015-04-03 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Which ones are you still concerned about?

[He needs to know, both for purposes of assessing how much he still needs Jack and for purposes of assessing who might be of help if he needs an ally against Jack.]
dramatist: (can't be bothered by the ties that bind)

[personal profile] dramatist 2015-04-05 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
Just looking at it in terms of ratings, almost everyone left is a seven or above, you know?

[Which is probably a little more vague than Kyouya had been hoping for, but it's not untruthful, either. While Jack had initially wanted to go targeting the most aggressive, highest-ranking people, luck and circumstance had led to the elimination of the lower ranks first. Even some of the sixes had been difficult...]
glasshole: (serious | you've tried my patience)

[personal profile] glasshole 2015-04-05 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yes, he knows. Iceland, the idols, Haruhi, Cole, and Tamaki. With Tamaki the lowest ranked. It's not ideal. But then his own rating is high enough to compensate for that somewhat. Of those people, he doesn't know who Jack has already eliminated today. Another reason to avoid leaving the relative safety of Jack until things are more settled with Tokaku.

Well. He makes a decision.]

You can rely on my assistance to the extent I'm able to provide it. There are more strategic ways to go about this than attacking.

Personally, my biggest concern is Nui Harime. I'm given to believe she was sizing Tamaki up before you intervened?
dramatist: (salvation)

[personal profile] dramatist 2015-04-06 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[If Jack is surprised by the offer, it doesn't show. There's some gratitude in his expression, at the very least.]

That's kind of you. I'll try not to be too much of a burden. [Sort of hard considering the circumstances, but he sure will try, even if his reasons are largely due to self-interest. It would be just as good for him if he could rely on himself alone, though he doesn't see sufficiency as a reason to get rid of his team just yet.

In response to Kyouya's observation, there's a little affirmative hum.]

She was there. It might have been dangerous eventually, but immediate aggression may not be her preference... Ah, but Haruhi was waiting for her when we saw that light coming from this place last night, you know? It was a signal. I found her when I went to have a look, and she sent me off before Nui came back. [And Jack, feeling nonconfrontational at the time, had been pretty content to just mosey away. Still, it did tell him something:]

I think she was worried, even though it was just me at the time. [Not taking risks, then.] They seem to watch out for each other well.
