28 players remaining
The morning the game starts, all pairs will be escorted from their rooms by friendly robot buddies into their own underwater shuttle waiting to take them to the arena. Should anyone try to resist, the collar around their neck will start beeping ominously and their friendly robot escort will become a lot less friendly and a lot more forceful. While in the shuttle, each player will be stripped of whatever clothing or items they have on them. The robot buddies will give each player the following:- a uniform consisting of a light water-resistant jacket, a t-shirt with the words BLOOD MATCH '15 emblazoned on it, track pants, and standard-issue undergarments. All clothing has been tailored to the player's size perfectly and comes in a classy shade of steel grey.
- a small backpack which holds: three matches, a small canteen with a day's worth of water, and a day's worth of packaged rations
- a digital watch
- a booklet with all the character information cards in it
- a randomly assigned tool
The shuttle ride lasts for around half an hour, docking in a large garage. A friendly robot buddy will then guide each pair into their own elevator and a countdown will begin from 10. Once the countdown hits zero, the elevators will rise and the players will emerge in a shallow bay of what appears to be a volcanic island.
(OOC: Please update your character's info card with the ranking they would have likely received based on observation of their stay at the training facility. Rankings should be between 1-10.
Also, when starting a thread, please put in your header the following: ZONE # - TIME - AREA. This will hopefully make it easier for everyone to keep track of which character is where.)Setting

You're doing very well. [She smiles.] If I didn't know better, I would have thought you were always like this.
no subject
Really? That's a relief! It's been so long that it can get a little difficult to keep track of what to do.
no subject
[CHEERFUL.]
no subject
It's something probably better off avoided, anyway. [Since where he comes from, you can only do what he did if you really heck up. HECK UP REAL BAD... Though that brings a question to mind-]
Where you come from, is the 100 year cycle of rebirth in effect?
no subject
Some people believe in reincarnation back home, but I don't know if I do. [Still...] But if I could be reborn with Mio, again and again... I'd be so happy.
no subject
There's nothing saying it's impossible, right?
no subject
That's true... [She giggles.] Ah, I can't wait to go back. What's the first thing you're going to do, once we win?
[SOMEONE'S CONFIDENT.]
no subject
THAT REALLY IS A LOT OF CONFIDENCE, THOUGH. Jack just laughs, and he'd probably shrug if he didn't have a koala on his back.]
I have some unfinished business back home, so the first thing I need to do is see how much time has passed - if any has at all. [ABYSS...] You?
no subject
...I'm going to be with my sister again. That's all I want. We'll be able to keep our promise for real this time...
no subject
[If time shenanigans actually worked out in his favor for once...! Though he never really experienced them in the same way those who were swallowed by the Abyss did, anyway.]
That sounds like a nice plan too, though!
no subject
[She doesn't bear Jack any ill will, at least! Not yet anyway... After all, he is helping her get back to her sister.]
When we go back, we can look at some of the old writings in the village. Maybe there's more written about the thing you emerged from so we can figure out how to get you back home...
no subject
That would really be a big help! Though I'm hoping I'll be put back where I belong.
no subject
[She's holding onto his hair to help keep her balance already; her grip tightens ever so slightly.]
no subject
Jack doesn't seem bothered by his hair being gripped, at least?! He's dealt with grabbier kids before.]
We will... But! That doesn't mean it'll be a forever-goodbye, right?
no subject
...you're going to leave me behind and go back to that other place you came from... you can't say it won't be forever.
[Okay yeah it definitely is.]
no subject
Just because I go back there, that doesn't mean I have to stay there all of the time. The biggest hurdle is already jumped! Knowing that our worlds are connected at all, that is.
[good thing Jack's such a pro at making promises he doesn't keep to lonely girls?!]
no subject
You're sure about that..? You're really, really sure? You won't just go back there and never come back to see me again...? I'll be sad if you're lying.
no subject
I'm really sure! Look, a promise—
[And then, using his Fancy New Modern Knowledge, he hefts her weight up a little to briefly free one hand so he can hold it up, pinky extended. She'll have to do the rest though, since he can't bend his arm backward from here.]
no subject
A promise...
[Mayu knows what that means, at least - she smiles and reaches out to hook her pinky with his.]
Even after this is over, you won't leave and forget about me. And I'll remember you too... we'll see each other again. It's a promise.
no subject
Remember that too, okay? You have to now!
[Now that they have SEALED THEIR FATE WITH THE PINKY PROMISE. After shaking her hand once though, he'll be pulling it back so he can stop trying to carry her with one arm like a dang dingus.]
no subject
I will. Thank you.
[She sounds content enough! Jack is spared further yanning for the moment, because Mayu isn't getting distressed. But, y'know, promises never saved Mio either, so. Oops.]
...do you think we'll find anything useful out here?
no subject
Mm... Maybe not by way of food or water. It's pretty sparse out here, isn't it?
[Glancing around as he says that, like the terrain will magically change if he makes a vague complaint.]
no subject
It is... This probably isn't where we want to spend the night.
[Even though it is west... granted, if there's mountains there's probably caves, and plenty of places to hide, but they only have so much in their backpacks in terms of food and water.]
There's only so many places people could go, though. We'll find them even if we don't stay here...
["Them" being... who, exactly? It wouldn't hurt for Mayu to be a LITTLE LESS CRYPTIC.]
no subject
Jack doesn't seem outwardly baffled, at least?! He glances westward (or what they have now decided is westward), humming softly.]
We should try to hurry, though. [A beat, and then:] Why don't I find a place for you to stay for a bit while I scout ahead?
no subject
[Mayu bites her lip. Their promise is fresh in her mind, though - he wouldn't make a promise like that and just ditch her... would he?]
For me to wait for you to come back...
