28 players remaining
The morning the game starts, all pairs will be escorted from their rooms by friendly robot buddies into their own underwater shuttle waiting to take them to the arena. Should anyone try to resist, the collar around their neck will start beeping ominously and their friendly robot escort will become a lot less friendly and a lot more forceful. While in the shuttle, each player will be stripped of whatever clothing or items they have on them. The robot buddies will give each player the following:- a uniform consisting of a light water-resistant jacket, a t-shirt with the words BLOOD MATCH '15 emblazoned on it, track pants, and standard-issue undergarments. All clothing has been tailored to the player's size perfectly and comes in a classy shade of steel grey.
- a small backpack which holds: three matches, a small canteen with a day's worth of water, and a day's worth of packaged rations
- a digital watch
- a booklet with all the character information cards in it
- a randomly assigned tool
The shuttle ride lasts for around half an hour, docking in a large garage. A friendly robot buddy will then guide each pair into their own elevator and a countdown will begin from 10. Once the countdown hits zero, the elevators will rise and the players will emerge in a shallow bay of what appears to be a volcanic island.
(OOC: Please update your character's info card with the ranking they would have likely received based on observation of their stay at the training facility. Rankings should be between 1-10.
Also, when starting a thread, please put in your header the following: ZONE # - TIME - AREA. This will hopefully make it easier for everyone to keep track of which character is where.)Setting

But she's not so nuts that she can't hear Beat speak. Another person's voice snaps her out of her abandonment-induced stupor, and her gaze focuses in the direction his voice had come from. She draws back a little, and what he'll be able to see of her expression seems frightened. It's not like she can get far with her leg, though.]
Who's... who's there?

[Holden, unfortunately for him, can think of "Mayu" as "has sister named Mio" and "does not belong here". He's had a long day of climbing trees and whatever else. Being acknowledged is kind of a nice concept.
He has at least stopped advancing in the original direction and is now staring at Beat. He mouths "What should we do?" before remembering it's dark.]

Beat stops as well, glances back at Holden, cannot make out what he's saying at all, so he just calls back.]
It's Beat! ...What, Ruffles ain't witchu?
[That seems pretty rare at this stage of the game. It's a little weird.]

It's me, Holden!
[Takes a step in the general direction. Apparently they are engaging with this. Holden is frankly relieved he hasn't started hearing voices]

Is it safe to talk? Should she try to hide? ...she's not sure. If she hides, she'll be alone again.]
He... he told me I should wait here while he went on ahead to look around. But that was hours ago... What if he left me?
...do you think he would do that?

[It seems like it would put them at a disadvantage... it's also pretty mean, but then, he hasn't seen Mayu's leg yet.
He's venturing closer though....]

[Mayu flinches and hunches her shoulders, putting her hands over her ears and just barely peering out at Beat and Holden through her bangs.]
But he left... he left...

[Holden hates people who make promises and then break them when they finally have the chance to trust someone unconditionally, no stringing along, no currying favor, no being phony. He really does. Actually, as decent as Jack had seemed during the interviews, this is a big opportunity, the kind Beat and Holden hadn't been able to score with either of their tools. Progressing alongside Beat, Holden whispers to him.]
Maybe we really should help her out. It might not be such a bad idea with her protector out of the picture and all. [They may even have an excuse to take Jack out of the picture, and then Mayu can help them out right until she conveniently dies later. Accidentally eating poison. Beautiful corpse. Ladylike.]

[He mutters back, but... he's basically the same as Holden but with more earnest, less strategy, but the definite implication that he is ready to punch Jack's face... anyway, it's decided, so he calls again]
Yo Mayu! We gonna come over there to help - don't freak out, we cool?
no subject
Can... can I trust the two of you not to hurt me? Do you promise?
no subject
[Turns to Beat. He is the Japanese one in this partnership, so]
Should we pinky promise or something??
no subject
I promise too! Is that all right?

What... what were the items they gave you when you started? Mine was a necklace, but... I thought I saw some others with weapons...

I had this copy of Boy's Life magazine. It already got dirty though so it's back in the flatlands somewhere. I felt pretty lousy about it because they go on and on about how bad littering is, but there's a lot worse going on out here anyway...
no subject
[She's not sure if she believes him. Mostly because he brought up littering. The entire island is going to be littered with corpses soon; a magazine won't make much difference.]
Why would they give you a magazine..?
[She's scooting back a little, but it's not like she's going to be able to get far. ...and is it starting to rain? It's starting to rain. That's unfortunate.]
