When you first wake up in your room, an announcement will play on the television.

You’ll be spending your first week before the game officially starts at a vast facility that has been completely submerged underwater. This facility consists of a central hub surrounded by four smaller spherical buildings. You can get to each subsection by either taking a shuttle or walking across a long glass tunnel.

[He notices that look and gives her one back, clearly aware of just how stupid he looks holding it. At least she does recognize that it's a serious matter, though...]

I... think? A little bit, maybe?

[He swings it to test out... and it ends up slipping right out of his hands again, clattering against one of the weapon racks.]

[Just two boys. Roaming the streets. Okay, they're hallways. Underwater. What the fuck.]

I'm never going to understand why they have so much required reading in our school system. How many essays about the same story can one teacher actually stand to read? What happened to America as the land of opportunity? Just an opportunity to get onto reality television. It's all trash. It really is. [What he's getting at is, this is phony.]

[He watches Kenny do this. The minibar. Isn't that for like, grownups. Why would he want any of that? Right, everyone knows the McCormicks are notorious alcoholics.

He does not want to be partnered with an alcoholic.]

[After uttering these apparently insightful non sequiturs, Craig moves past Kenny to rummage in the cupboard instead, because he wants cereal. Like a normal person. And in a way, it's comfort food, because he can't be in the Hunger Games. He just can't. He is ten fucking years old. Kenny is absolutely right when he says that it should have been Cartman or one of his other asshole friends, because they're always getting into stuff like this, but not him.

This is utterly ridiculous.]

So you don't actually think we got kidnapped by a rich pedophile.

[He has been staring at this idiot and his struggle for several minutes now, because it's actually really fucking funny.]

Wow. Even I know how to make a campfire.

[For Yona, this all still feels like a bad dream, even though she knows it's... probably not. This isn't her first taste of a horrifying situation, and not the first she's wondered if she would come out of it alive. However it was an entirely different kind of scary. Even if she'd learned to use different weapons to protect herself after her father's death, it's not like she ever intended to use those skills like this.

Even so, she tried to stay strong and ventured out. It wasn't until she'd reached the dining area that she finally saw her partner. From the message she'd listened to earlier, it wasn't hard to tell. There shouldn't be more than one person she would recognize here.

They might not exactly be friends, but it wasn't like she hadn't seen her at school before. That familiar presence... it was more comforting than she thought it would be. Putting on a brave smile, she brought her food to the spot across from Tokaku.]

[Yona's not sure what obstacles she'll be up against, so she decides to check out the survival training. She's not sure how well she'll do with the hands-on stuff but... well, that's why she's here. No point in holding back!

First aid she does well with. She even knows a little bit about the healing properties of plants from a friend back home, which might catch a few eyes. Of course she'd be happy to help anyone struggling in this area.

Making a shelter... that she doesn't do so well with. She struggles putting something together and when she's finished... all she can do is cringe. One edge is rounded and the other edge has pieces sticking out that make that side look more like a square; giving it a rather ridiculous looking appearance. Oops...]

[Archery. Now that is something Yona is comfortable with. But now's the time to hone her skills. She can test herself too, with the ability to change the distance and mobility of the robot out in front of her.

She starts out simple, but by the time she's really gotten in to it, she's challenging herself in every way. She doesn't always hit the mark by that point, but her accuracy is well over ninety percent.]

Hmm. That was good practice.

[She's confidant with that. That's why she looks at the knives then, only to look worried.]

...I don't think I'd be any good with those though. Hmm...

[In her exploration, Yona found herself at the dance club. The atmosphere... it brought a smile to her face. Although she was content just standing back and listening to the music while other people danced.]

There are so many different kinds of music.

[It was impressive to hear the variety, and just as interesting.]

Suit yourself. [The dismissive tone came colder than she'd intended, and she tried to soften it with a shrug, pulling her tray slightly away to make space. It normally took her a little to asses someone--build up her guard or relapse into practiced reservation.

Something was missing, this time. It was as if one of her senses were muted and she wasn't quite sure how off she was, so there was no resort but try to do this the old way.

Small talk.]

It's a good thing you haven't lost your appetite. [The half empty bowl was a testament to the importance of Tokaku's statement] You're going to need it, here.

[Whether he's tactful or tactless, it doesn't really matter to Mayu. Her response is going to be the same regardless - which is to say, she lets out a sharp gasp of surprise and takes a step back, one hand fluttering up to her chest in what seems to be a gesture of nervousness.]

...she's my sister.

[That response isn't really comforting, and her expression contorts with what seems to be worry. She brings a hand up to her mouth as if to keep herself quiet.]

Do you think it's likely..?

[There is a very small part of her that hopes that it is, but past experience has taught her that when you're spirited away the chances of a safe escape are exceedingly slim. Even if it's not ghosts who are responsible for this, she doesn't think it will be any easier to run away.]

[There's no "and" about it. Just "crazed" is accurate, but it's a controlled sort of crazy - she's not going to start pulling anyone's hands to her neck and she's not going to snap and start laughing as she tries to cut them down.

(Yet.)]

Oh, it's you... [She hums. He's not someone she knows well, but she does know him marginally better than she knows anyone else here - and he had helped her, before.] It's a little strange, isn't it? How all of this happened so quickly... I wonder why.

[Mayu can't help but start when she hears him clear his throat - but, well, it's only mild. By now, she's had her fair share of people coming up behind her when her attention has been on something else.

She stays quiet as she finishes working on the trap she's been fiddling with - and then in the next moment, she hooks one last piece into place and it snaps shut with the sharp sound of metal on metal. If anyone's foot had been stuck in there, they might not have a foot anymore...

She slowly turns her head to look at Silver.]

...these things are dangerous, aren't they?

[Um, duh.]

[An innocuous-looking boy walks by with trap-building materials in his hands, "accidentally" knocking his foot against the poor excuse for a shelter as he passes, entirely straight-faced.]

Whoops.

[She's never really felt sorry for inanimate objects before, but... Wow. Mayu can't help but stop and stare as Franziska wails on the poor thing.

It's impolite not to at least speak up, she knows. That doesn't stop her from keeping quiet.

It's only when Franziska is finished that Mayu brings her hands together in very soft applause.]

Umm...

[Does Mayu really want to get involved with this? She's not sure. He does have a knife, after all. But after a moment or two of watching him work at it, she bends her knees a little to try and come closer to his height and clears her throat.]

Maybe you should... use that knife to try to eat something, instead.

[If she was entirely honest, she hadn't thought of it that way. But she supposed she was right - food would mean energy.]

Yeah... I'm not really any good at preparing food, so I wonder how well I'll really be able to eat after this.

[Amazingly, she can laugh about it a little yet. It's not that she's not afraid - because she's terrified. But she doesn't see letting that hold her back helping her any. So she's trying to be as strong as she can.]

Ah...

[It doesn't even bother her that someone 'accidentally' bumped into it. What bothers her is...]

...that's really all it took to bring it down, huh?

[Craig smiles happily when he sees the destruction he has caused. At least this girl knows she sucks at building things.]

Yep. It was pretty terrible.

[This guy... What is he doing??? There's an impression that he's never used a weapon before in his life, but Saitou doesn't trust something that seems so obvious.]

Your time would be better spent considering how you would fight against someone who could.

[...he shouldn't have to say this, but...]

...I suggest finding a weapon you're able to wield.

I wonder if there's an easier way...

[She's probably going to die of hypothermia if it rains...]

Oh. What are you making?

[Because that's much more interesting than the things she... can't make.]

[Iceland looks off to one side; he's the most peaceful country in the world, and acting like this feels incredibly wrong. But what else can he do?]

I don't know. [He doesn't think it's likely at all.] Not being prepared for whatever might happen would be dumb, so I'm doing this, but it's not like I want to.

You're right about that...

[That it would be dumb, not to be prepared. Mayu bites her lip and looks from the boy who appears to be about her age to the longbow, and then back again.]

Do you think you could... [She fidgets.] I've never used one of those before. Do you think you could shoot it slowly so I can see how it's done?

[volcanoes]

[Iceland should probably say no. Norway would probably say no. But he doesn't know how to refuse. Maybe later on she'll have some hesitation about going after her if he helps her. If he tells himself that, his actions feel a bit more justified. He notches the bow and slowly gets into position so she can see.]

I guess. It takes practice, mostly. [Practice and some level of upper body strength. Iceland's form isn't perfect, but it gets the job done as far as getting arrows to hit a target.]

[She watches very carefully as he gets into position, and tries to mimic it herself - but a sharp pain throbs in her leg and she glances down at it quickly with a slight grimace. A moment later, she returns her attention back to Iceland.]

It looks... heavy. You must be very strong...
